TEHRAN – Medical workers gathered in front of Gandhi Hospital in Tehran to protest attacks on healthcare facilities after the hospital was damaged during the joint U.S.–Israeli air campaign against Iran.

Doctors, nurses, and other hospital staff held the gathering outside the medical center, condemning strikes on hospitals and other civilian facilities as violations of international humanitarian law and acts of terrorism.

Gandhi Hospital, located in northern Tehran, was damaged on March 1 when explosions from nearby airstrikes shattered parts of the facility and forced the evacuation of patients, including newborns from the neonatal ward. Witnesses reported significant structural damage and chaos as medical teams rushed to move patients to safety.

The hospital is among more than a dozen health facilities across Iran that have been affected since the United States and Israel launched their attacks on February 28.

At a briefing on Thursday, World Health Organization Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said the organization had verified 13 attacks on healthcare facilities in Iran, stressing that under international humanitarian law, medical facilities must be protected during conflicts.

According to Iran’s Ministry of Health, 10 members of the country’s medical staff had been killed as of Friday evening while carrying out their duties during the ongoing attacks.

Civilian casualties have continued to rise. Iranian authorities say more than 1,200 people have been killed across the country since the U.S.–Israeli war began, with thousands more injured.

One of the deadliest incidents occurred in the southern city of Minab, where a strike on Shajareh-ol-Tayyebeh girls’ school killed nearly 170 students. International media reports say the school may have been struck by a U.S. missile.

Iranian officials have also reported attacks on civilian infrastructure beyond hospitals and schools. Commercial and passenger airports have been targeted during the strikes, raising concerns about the safety of civilian transportation.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei strongly condemned the attacks, saying on Saturday that targeting civilian aviation facilities represented another escalation in the campaign against the Iranian people.

“The cowardly attack on civilian airports and the targeting of a passenger aircraft mark another dark chapter in the aggressors’ campaign of terror and crimes against Iranians,” Baghaei said.
